Novak Djokovic suffered a shock three-set defeat to Argentina's Thiago Tirante at the Cincinnati Open after battling severe heat exhaustion and physical distress.

Novak Djokovic endured a grueling and distressing exit at the Cincinnati Open, suffering a surprise second-round defeat against Argentine qualifier Thiago Agustin Tirante. Despite a dominant start, the Serbian superstar succumbed to severe heat exhaustion and underlying health issues, eventually losing 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.

Djokovic started the match strongly, cruising through the opening set 6-2. However, trouble began mounting in the second set under the oppressive heat and high humidity of Ohio. Leading 2-1 in the second set, the 24-time Grand Slam champion required an urgent medical timeout, receiving a blood pressure check after vomiting into a towel. Although he fought on, his mobility and stamina deteriorated sharply.

Tirante capitalized relentlessly on Djokovic's physical decline, punishing the veteran with powerful serves and heavy forehands to secure the biggest victory of his career. Following the match, Djokovic reflected on his recurring physical struggles in extreme weather:

"This is a health issue I have been dealing with for several years. It causes a lot of difficulties, especially in hot and humid conditions. I anticipated a tough battle, but the match tension made everything worse," Djokovic stated, also hinting that this might have been his final appearance in Cincinnati.

With the US Open right around the corner, this unexpected setback raises serious questions regarding Djokovic's physical readiness for the grueling hard-court Grand Slam in New York.
