With talks stalled, legal expert Miguel Galan, President of the National Football Coaches Center (CENAFE), pointed to the landmark 2005 legal battle of Iban Zubiaurre, who left Real Sociedad for Athletic Bilbao. Sociedad demanded a €30 million release clause, but Spanish labor courts deemed it abusive and reduced it to €5 million. Former Barcelona spokesperson Toni Freixa added that Alvarez could challenge his release clause in labor court if it is disproportionate to his salary and market value.
Although legal action remains a last resort due to potential career delays, taking this path could set a major legal precedent for La Liga transfer clauses.
